A CNN commentator wrote a column about immigrants and illegal workers. There is more than meets the eye to most political debates:
Commentary: Slavery Alive and Well in the U.S.
“After all, compassion without common sense may feel good but it doesn’t achieve anything. If you need proof then go out and give $1,000 to every homeless person who asks you for change. I bet your heart would be full, but your wallet would soon be empty. And all those people would probably still be homeless.”
-Glenn Beck
And many of these political debates, if you look closer, turn into humanitarian debates as opposed to political. Sometimes it’s easy for us to gloss over a situation by our so-called compassion. But our compassion is more like a logical loophole. God’s compassion is much different and much more involved. It requires sacrifice. Something not a lot of us like to talk about.
“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another…” Zechariah 7:9
